Gigabyte Unveils First SSD with PCIe 5.0

PC hardware manufacturer Gigabyte has unveiled the Aorus Gen5 10000 SSD, the first SSD to be using the new PCIe 5.0 controller with 3D-TLC NAND Flash.

With PCIe 5.0, the new SSD has a read speed of 10GB/s, around 55% faster than the current PCIe 4.0 SSDs.

The SSD comes in 1TB to 4TB capacity, uses the existing M.2 2280 interface and comes with a removable copper heatsink. This is handy as some PC motherboards have started to include built-in M.2 heatsinks, so you might want the included heatsink or not based on your setup.

Gigabyte claims that this generation of PCIe can go faster than 12 GB/s so there’s potential for this new generation of SSDs to be even faster. Though with faster speeds comes more heat generation- which can throttle the speed if left unchecked- so expect SSD heatsinks to be a regular thing.

No pricing and release date has been revealed for the Aorus Gen5 10000 SSD.
