Indie kaiju brawler GigaBash was supposed to be this little love letter to the giant tokusatsu monsters of yore, but it’s now, more than ever, the 3D brawler that kaiju fans all over have dreamed for thanks to its latest DLC.
The new GigaBash Gamera Rebirth DLC adds two new licensed kaiju as playable characters: Guiron and Gamera. The former can strike fast with its bladed head and also zone the hell out of anyone with its plasma Scale Shots. The latter, the titular Gamera, is not only as tanky as its hardened shell looks, but also just as destructive.
What makes this a big deal is this is will be the first time Gamera and Godzilla (a previous paid DLC pack) have barely any crossover, as they IPs are owned by two rival companies. These two kaijus never went face-to-face despite their long presence in cinema, so to see them finally duke it out here in GigaBash is an amazing feat for the Malaysia-based studio who clearly are as big of a kaiju fan as their fanbase are.
With the Gamera Rebirth DLC, GigaBash grows its roster to 26 playable characters total. The roster started with homages to kaijus, giant robots and superheroes that can grow into kaiju-sized beings now has actual kaijus (Godzilla, Gamera and the gang) and superheroes that can grow into kaiju-sized beings (multiple Ultraman). Still missing some licensed giant robots, though.
GigaBash is a 3D brawler up to 4 players inspired by PowerStone and Super Smash Bros. Each character has a moveset and can freely move around the arena, leveling entire town thanks to destructible environments. The game supports cross-play online matchmaking as well as local play with various mode you’d expect from a fighting-adjacent game including a Story Mode, an Arcade Mode and more.
The GigaBash Gamera Rebirth DLC releases on November 20, 7PM PT (November 21, 11 AM Malaysia Time, +8 GMT).
GigaBash is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Stove), Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review of the game back at launch here.
