Steam is having a Lunar New Year sale, live right now. Various games from the PC games platform’s huge library are discounted until January 27th, 10AM PST (January 28th, 2AM Malaysian Time, +8 GMT).
In addition, there is also the Emperor’s Great Race, a mini-event where you log in during the four days of sales to claim ang paus and learn the story behind the rat as a zodiac symbol in the Chinese calendar. 2020 is the year of the rat.
The ang pau contains 100 tokens for you to cash in the limited-time market, offering cosmetics for your Steam profile and emotes. The big redeem option is a RM20 coupon for your next purchase, which requires 5,000 tokens- not enough if you just rely on the ang paus. Tokens are collected based on how much you spend (approximately 24 Tokens for every RM1, converted from 100 tokens per $1 USD).
Steam sales have been a bit formulaic as of recently, the last one for New Year, and all the way back to last year’s Lunar New Year sale follow a similar format. But hey, if discounted games that you are after, there are buttloads of that. The best time to use your real-life ang paus on Steam.
