If you played PC games in the 90’s, you might have heard of Bullfrog, the legendary studio behind Populus, Dungeon Keeper, and many other games that are innovative at its time. They got bought by EA later on and like many other studios EA has bought, got closed. But let’s talk about Dungeon Keeper.
Dungeon Keeper, the original one on PC, not the abomination of a mobile game that shared the same name, has a simple premise. You are a dungeon keeper, a dungeon that many heroes would enter to plunder foes and vanquish foes. Your role is to stop them at all costs by creating labyrinths, and place traps and monsters. It’s the reverse of most RPG games where you crawl into a dungeon and defeat foes. It was brilliant at its time.
Should you have nostalgic moments with this gem, or just curious on how a game from the 90’s fare today, it’s now available for free via Origin On The House, the scheme where EA’s proprietary launcher/store offers free games. The caveat here is you have to have Origin installed and an Origin account. Aside from that, it’s pretty much free.
So go grab it here while it lasts.
