MercurySteam is back with a new game entirely of their own. The Spanish developer famous for their work on Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow and Metroid Dread announced their latest game, Blades Of Fire, at IGN Game Fest.
To be published by 505 Games, Blades Of Fire follows the journey of hero Aran de Lira, accompanied by scholar Adso, as they face against the evil Queen Nerea.
Blades Of Fire is an action game, as you can see in the brutal sword and axe swings in the reveal trailer. You can tactically aim and stab, slash and smack enemy body parts.
But what really sets it apart is weapon forging system. Aran has the ability to craft weapons, from seven weapons “families”. The materials you use, the weapon family it comes from and what Forge Scrolls you use (there’s over 30 of them) will greatly change the forged weapon’s ability, including stats like weight, length, durability, penetration and edge quality.
And you’ll need all the edge you can get to face over 50 enemy types, from creatures to the undead, each having a different attack style, weapon and armour setup.
Despite being just announced, Blades Of Fire is really close to launch. Though despite having the word “Steam” on the developer’s name, Blades Of Fire will launch on PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive.
Blades Of Fire will launch on May 22 for the PS5, PC (Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S.
