It’s always a challenge to find and convince friends to buy a multiplayer game to play together. But what if they don’t even need to buy them?
Velan Studios’ latest multiplayer game, Midnight Murder Club, is offering free Guests Pass edition of the game so your plus one can play for free. Though in this case, you can have a up to a plus five.
Essentially, a full six-player lobby of Midnight Murder Club can be achieved by having only one player who bought the game (at reasonable price point of only RM80.49 in Malaysia), while the rest of the players join that paying player’s lobby via the free Guest Pass edition. A pretty generous offer.
Midnight Murder Club has six players hunt each other in Wormwood Manor. The place is all dark and unlit, so you have a flashlight to see what horrors lurk in the manor, and a revolver to shoot said horrors. It has a bit of the haunted house lurking horror experience games like Phasmophobia and Content Warning (among many others) gameplay, but with a variety of modes where it’s not all co-op.
The modes in Midnight Murder Club are:
- Free-for-All – Six brave souls enter the mansion, and the player with the most kills when time runs out prevails among the rest.
- Thief in the Night – Three fearless teams of two scour the mansion for valuable skulls to deposit into a vault. When the last vault closes, the team with the most value accumulated wins.
- Team Deathmatch – Kill-or-be-killed with your team in a murderous stand-off.
- Head Hunters – Two friends become foes as they hunt the remaining four players as they try to find and burn three hidden demonic totems in the haunting halls.
- New Game Mode: Wildcards – Valiant attendees will play cards from their collection that change the rules for everyone in-game in wild new ways! From hijacking the toys that appear in vendors, to giving everyone super speed, to exploding into flames when you die—use these cards to show your wild side! Then, when the dust settles and the match is over, you’ll be gifted brand new cards to add to your collection giving you even more ways to change the game.

Based on the game’s roadmap, there will be a PVE mode where it should on paper plays more like your haunted house exploration games like Phasmophobia and Content Warning (among many others).
Velan Studios is the team behind the Knockout City, an EA Original multiplayer game that unfortunately has been closed down. Midnight Murder Club is published by PlayStation Studios, who also had a recent flop with a multiplayer game previously, but this game’s low-key launch into Early Access, lower price point and the free Guest Pass does make the game more appealing.
Midnight Murder Club supports cross-play across PS5 and PC. But also, it requires a PSN account which means a good number of players in select countries cannot play the game, even if it’s free via a Guest Pass.
Midnight Murder Club is out now in Early Access, available on PS5 and PC (Steam).
