Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI has gone gold. This means production of the release version of the game has been completed and should be on track for its target release date of June 22.
That’s usually the case when an announcement of a game going gold implies. Though a few years ago Cyberpunk 2077 made a weird move of delaying a game despite already stating the game going gold.
Final Fantasy XVI will be the next numbered entry for Square Enix’s flagship series since Final Fantasy XV’s release in 2016.
While the Final Fantasy series has traditionally been an RPG, FF XVI will be taking a different route in that it’s primarily a character-action game but with RPG elements. The development team is spearheaded by Naoki Yoshida as producer, the same role he holds in the still-active MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.
Final Fantasy XVI is also a PS5 exclusive, at least when it launches this year on June 22.
