FIA Motorsport Games Esports Competition Switches To Assetto Corsa Competizione For 2022

The 2022 FIA Motorsport Games will take place from 26 to 30 October in Marseille, France with 17 different competition disciplines, including esports.

New for 2022 is the switch of game choice. When this discipline was introduced in 2019, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the worldwide governing body for motorsports, utilised Gran Turismo Sport.

For this year, the event will be using Assetto Corsa Competizione instead.

The racing sim by Kunos Simulazioni will be powering this year’s competition, which will make use of a knock-out format to select the 20 finalists for the main event, all racing at the Circuit Paul Ricard’s Mistral Hall, overlooking the long Mistral Straight.

“We are very pleased to be the choice of the FIA for the Motorsport Games, as with Assetto Corsa Competizione we raised the bar even higher than with Assetto Corsa, bringing the thrill of real racing simulation to a very high number of countries, that we are looking forward to see competing in an event where each of the sim racers can make his or her nation proud,” said Marco Massarutto, co-founder and Executive Manager of Kunos Simulazioni.

“We are delighted to be able to work with Kunos Simulazioni and use their Assetto Corsa Competizione product at this occasion,” said FIA Esports Commission president Niroshan Pereira. “It is one of the most popular esports titles in the industry, as well as among our [National Sporting Authorities], so being able to collaborate with them is great.”

Gran Turismo Sport was heavily associated with the FIA. The 2017 racing game carries the FIA-certified branding on its own events, and was used as the game of choice for esports/racing sim competitions organised by the FIA. Now that Gran Turismo 7 is out, the latest title does not carry that association with FIA anymore.

Players interested in representing their country for the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games esports competition can contact their respective National Sporting Authorities which a full list can be found here.
