Crate Entertainment has announced new features coming to its survival city-builder Farthest Frontier, currently in Early Access and is inching ever closer to a full release.
There will be a new update arriving later in August. v0.9.0 will contain a few content and feature additions.
The first new feature is religion. In Farthest Frontier, you get to design what faith the folks will follow using Relics, each with their perks to help the town. Relics can be combined and used together. So you can mix and match what perks you want from your created religion.
Relics are found by excavating ancient ruins somewhere in the map (you’ll need to start a new map to have the spawn), doing it this way may attract raiders, or traded via merchants, or as loot from raiders.
Flax will become more important in the v0.9.0 update thanks to the introduction of paper. Flax is required to create paper in the Paper Mill, and paper is required to create books, a new luxury item for level 4 homes. Libraries can be built as a source of entertainment and require books to operate.
Your town in Farthest Frontier can also plop a Guild Hall. You can only build one, and it requires paper to operate, but it can boost one and only one industry of your choice.
And finally, for those facing problems with space to bury the dead, you can build Crypts.
The new dev blog also outlines several other features to look forward to when Farthest Frontier is readying for its 1.0 launch.
Combat, and base defending, will be getting more depth to it by way of raiders having new units. They will bring catapult to breach your layers and layers of walls. But you can now respond by recruiting range-only archers and horsemen.
Expect to see more new animals to rear including chickens, horses and goats.
Achievements and Steam Trading Cards support are coming, as well as mod support via the Steam Workshop.
Lastly, expect a few more quality-of-life improvements.
