Fantasian, the Apple Arcade-exclusive RPG by Mistwalker, will be heading to consoles and PC as Fantasian Neo Dimension. And now it has a release date.
As revealed in the September 2024 State Of Play broadcast, players will be able to play the latest game by the father of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi and his team at Mistwalker. The game also features the works of composer Nobuo Uematsu who made his name making the lush soundtrack of the Final Fantasy series.
Fantasian Neo Dimension centers on Leo, who is on a journey to recover his memories as well as solving the mystery that is destroying the world. The game has a turn-based battle system but with some sprinkles of strategic combat and unique mechanics. But the biggest hook of Fantasian is how the game looks- instead of pre-rendered scenery as used by many classic JRPGs, Fantasian has hand-crafted dioramas that evoke the spirit of those glorious hand-painted art in a new form.
Fantasian Neo Dimension is being published by Square Enix, which is sort of a homecoming for Sakaguchi who has left the company for 20 years to form Mistwalker. Mistwalker has fascinating RPGs since, including the Blue Dragon series featuring art by the late Akira Toriyama, the Xbox 360 epic Lost Odyssey, and the Wii-exclusive action-RPG The Last Story.
Fantasian Neo Dimension will be out on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on December 5. The PC (Steam) release in Asia is one day later, on December 6.
