Hooded Horse and Amplitude have dropped big news: the 4X turn-based strategy game Endless Legend 2 will leaving Early Access as version 1.0 launches this September.
This will coincide with the launch of Endless Legend 2 on consoles, coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 in particular will also receive a physical release in collaboration with Strictly Limited.
The sequel to 2014 seminal hit Endless Legend and the next game from Amplitude after Humankind, and the first since regaining their independence from Sega, Endless Legend 2 is set in a new planet of Saiadha, with new and a few reimagined factions playable.
Version 1.0 will include the sixth major faction: the Sandshapers. The oldest civilisation in Saiadha remembered when it was not covered in water, and they aim to terraform it back into a land of dunes.
On top of that, Endless Legend 2 will also include Rogue Factions, variants of existing factions that have different faction quest, story and gameplay. The first two (which implies more might be coming post-launch) are the Order Of Zelevas, a Rogue Faction based on the Kind of Sheredyn with a focus on conquest, and the Severed Claw, a splinter of the Necrophage that “replace its losses by enslaving other factions.” Somehow, the only-war faction can be even scarier, or fun, if you’re into that kind of playstyle rather than being on the receiving end.
Endless Legend 2 will also add one more Minor Faction, the Mangrove Of Harmony. This starfish-like faction was developed with the Amplitude community (the developers still run their own community forums).
Endless Legend 2 Demo Available Again On PC, Also On Consoles
To celebrate the announcement, Amplitude is reactivating the previous demo for Endless Legend 2 on PC. Of course, you can simply purchase the Early Access version now and play the game, but those who haven’t checked it out or was waiting for it to be actually releasing in full before taking a peek, now’s you chance.
In addition, the demo for Endless Legend 2 is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well.
Content should be the same as the previous limited-time demo, featuring the Kin Of Sheredyn and The Last Lords as playable factions.
During Amplitude’s stint under Sega, the developer has released games on consoles, including Humankind. So a console version of a 4X turn-based strategy game isn’t that odd. Plus, the other big 4X game series, Civilization, is perfectly playable on console these days as well. So having Endless Legend 2 playable with a controller should be a no-brainer. Now hopefully this translates to the PC version having controller support for Steam Deck and handhelds down the line.
Endless Legend 2 will be out in full on September 17 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S. It’s is currently in Early Access on PC. You can check out what we think of the initial Early Access launch here.
