Bandai Namco has announced a new fighting game based on the Dragon Ball universe. Technically it’s an accidental leak as it is scheduled to announced a few days later, according to Gematsu, but it is indeed legit.
Dragon Ball Fighters, unlike a lot of previous Dragon Ball games, eschews the 3D form and plays in a traditional 2D (or 2.5D) plane, with a three versus three battle system. Arc System Works is developing this and it only means good things. This is the team behind the anime fighters Blazblue and Guilty Gear series, as well as Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, the spinoff fighting games of Atlus’ hit RPG series.
With such a pedigree, the switch to 2D makes sense. It will also spout the very 2D look but actually 3D as the camera shifts like Guilty Gear Xrd series has been doing, which is a really neat looking aesthetic. Dragon Ball Fighters is set to release in early 2018 for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
