Despite All The Stock Shortages, Sony Has Sold 10 Million PS5s

You may find it hard to believe, but Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that they have sold 10 million units of the PS5, as of July 18, 2021.

This makes the PS5 the fastest-selling PlayStation, outpacing the PS4.

That said, SIE reiterates that they are aware of the difficulties in getting the next-gen console in stock.

“While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

“I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.”

Seeing a PS5 in stock right now is still a rarity. And for Malaysia, sales of PS5s are done in limited batches via pre-ordering through authorised dealers. Getting one without the hassle of waiting for stocks (or paying extra to scummy scalpers) is still difficult.

So this news may be a surprising one for most folks. The demand for the PS5 is really high right now.
