Castlevania has returned with a new 2D entry to the series. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the new entry developed by Konami, Evil Empire and Motion Twin—the latter two bein French indie devs that worked on the acclaimed metroidvania soulslike Dead Cells—is set in Paris in 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.
As Rose Belmont, daughter of the Dracula-slaying Trevor Belmont (who previously was a protagonist), you will be scouring the streets of Paris as you face off monsters, and make your way to Dracula’s castle once more.
Like any Castlevania game, it is a search-action game where exploration is at its heart. Players familiar with the series and newcomers will be getting to find and make use of various weapons and abilities, upgrade them and find a way to reach that one platform too high, or that one door that unlocks from the other side.
The music in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is composed by Daniel ASADI. You can check out this game’s rendition of Bloody Tears, a recurring Castlevania banger, now with chopped up drums and electronica influences on top of the expected gothic sounds one expect from such song.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. A demo is available with saves that carry over to the full game.
