Do you like cars? Okay. But do you like a car-centric city? What if there’s a game that pushes the idea of car-dependability at its limits in a tongue-in-cheek way?
Car Park Capital is an upcoming tycoon game where instead of building theme parks, hospitals, or railroads, you build roads and car parks. Hired by the Big Auto, your job is to build a parking empire and get as many cars on the road as possible. Traffic jam isn’t an issue in this game, it’s the desired outcome.
You do this by demolishing homes, buying up land and build your lots for the all-consuming cars. Yes, you can build vertically. How else would you make multi-level car parks?
Car Park Capital’s satire by depicting every urbanist’s nightmare goes even further than just building a sprawl of concrete and asphalt. Over time there will be protests. And you must fight back with pro-car propaganda. Get them happy, and yearn for the automobile and see car sales and oil consumption go up and into your pockets. Only then you can build Traffic Paradise.
If it’s not clear enough, Car Park Capital is offering social commentary on car dependency and urban development. This game isn’t promoting pro-motorist ideals, rather it offers commentary on what if the world truly forgo public transport and any concerns raised by urbanists that preach for more walkable cities.
It should be clear enough though, do you think the idea of being able to track every citizen’s thoughts, the ability to create Ferris Wheels for cars, and “raise towering asphalt cathedrals” is something you’d actually want in your backyard?
Outside of its radical satire theme, Car Park Capital should trigger the nostalgia of players familiar with the Rollercoaster Tycoon and Railway Tycoon series, among other tycoon strategy games. The graphics here evoke that isometric 2D-sprite look. Also, UFOs. Like how the older SimCity games used to have tons of that.
In addition, Car Park Capital will be moddable from the get-go. Some content and scripts can be modified using the Lua programming language.
Developed by Hilkojj Interactive, Car Park Capital will be published by MicroProse. No release date is given, but it’s coming to PC (Steam).
