Bioware Finally Shares New Info On Anthem Gameplay Changes

Anthem, the flawed looter-shooter by Bioware, is getting a major overhaul. And now we get to see some glimpses of the gameplay changes that will be coming to the game.

In a new blog post, Bioware has revealed a redesign on how Javelins – the Iron Man-like suits you equip- works. There is now more room to create unique builds based on what Javelin class you use.

Also, skills, which used to be loot drops, are now part of a skill tree instead.

The key changes are as follows:

  • All items are categorized to one of the 11 available equipment slots
  • Weapons are either Primary or Secondary, allowing distinctiveness in their role
  • Mods and Artifact slots replace Components
  • Manage Equipment and Abilities in your Loadout Screen
  • Abilities are unlocks, not drops! Play with the Abilities you want, when you want
  • Empower your Abilities by equipping them with Mods
  • Builds are defined by the synergies of Specializations, Abilities, and Equipment
  • Inscriptions improve build synergies, but are no longer the primary factor
  • Each Javelin can level up, awarding Skill Points
  • Skill points can be spent to unlock Abilities, Passives, and Stat Boosts
  • Each Specialization has its own Advanced Skill Tree

These are still concepts, but it looks to be a vast improvement compared to the system already in place in Anthem currently. No ETA on when the Anthem overhaul will be coming, but at least, it’s reassuringly on the right track.
