Looks like there’s another player in the historical 4X games space. Announced at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022 is Ara: History Untold, a new game by Oxide Games and published by Xbox Game Studios Publishing.
The teaser trailer shows a lot of historical events from the beginning of civilization/humankind to the slightly modern era with a mix-mash of cultures living together.
Looking at the game screenshots revealed after the show and it’s easy to see this is most like a historical 4X game similar to Civilization and Humankind. Though Ara is being described as a turn-based grand strategy game right now.
The hex-based tiles, the way the UI looks it has all the undertakings of a historical 4X game, so it will be interesting to see what new ideas Oxide Games will be bringing to the table.
The game will be running on Oxide’s proprietary Nitrous Engine, last seen used in their last game, Ashes Of The Singularity.
Ara: History Untold will have an Insider Program allowing players to sign up and be the first to play the game, as well as providing much-needed feedback to help shape the game in some form.
Ara: History Untold has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PC and will be available on PC Game Pass.
