The Gamer Malaya and Gamer Matters Game Of The Year Awards 2018 reveal is off to a rollicking start.
For this year, we are publishing our deliberations process as an episode of dia.log – The Gamer Matters Podcast. Here you can listen in to the first award to we discussed during the process.
Hacknet got a big shout thanks to its novelty of being a hacking game that uses actual Linux commands, allowing players to immerse into a simulated hacking world while still using some of the actual tools of the trade.
Meanwhile, Destiny 2 managed to stay on. Not many here are a fan of the looter-shooter, but for the price of $free.99. it’s a good game. Simulacra Pipe Dreams, a Made In Malaysia free sequel to Simulacra got a shout as well. It’s a phone-within-a-phone game, but also on PC (Steam) too.
However, after a deadlock of votes, one true free sequel comes on top. A tale of hope, A tale of dreams. It is none other than Toby Fox’s Deltarune. Congratulations!

Choice quotes from the deliberations:
“[Deltarune] improved on Undertale… The combat system I prefer it to Undertale. It’s party based now. It still keeps the Undertale’s charm, for better or worse.” -Wam
“Deltarune.. Ralsei is a good boy. And good battle music.” -Daniel
“It’s a good sequel for free, even though it’s not completed.” -Meck on Detltarune, before sighing from the hearing the word “freequel”.
“I object!”– Irham, notable Destiny 2 fan, on Deltarune
“F*** Destiny 2, F*** Destiny 2!” – Anan, who almost voted for Destiny 2
