Borderlands Series Sales Pass 100 Million Units, More Borderlands 4 Content Coming Next Year

The entire Borderlands franchise has sold more than 100 million units, developer Gearbox Software announced. The series that pioneered what we call today as a looter-shooter has four numbered titles, one canon-but unnumbered title, a fantasy spin-off, and two narrative adventure games.

This is part of a thank-you post by the developers to the community as the first year of post-launch content for Borderlands 4 have wrapped up. Since its launch, Borderlands 4 has had two Story Packs (i.e. DLC with new story quests that feature a new map), five Bounty Packs (grindable battle pass that passively increases through play and actively through completing daily and weekly challenges), two new Vault Hunters (new playable characters) and more.

The announcement teased that “the team is cooking hard on more Borderlands 4 content for next year” and are open to suggestions. This might imply production work haven’t truly started yet, but it’s now the best time to sound off to the developers where the current game should be headed.

If you ask us, it’s in a better state than it was at launch, though better level design either through better use of the new open world, or scrapping it for smaller crafted zones like previous games, would be a start.

Borderlands 4 is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), and Xbox Series X|S.
