An unfortunate big talking point of Marvel’s Wolverine, the latest action game by Insomniac Games, was how hand-holdy it was for a linear game.
The Scent trail, the waypoint system based off the protagonist’s strong sense of smell, has been ridiculed on social media for coddling gamers too much. It’s yellow paint discourse all over again, but now with “fart gas.”
Insomniac took this fan feedback like a champ though, as a new update to Marvel’s Wolverine can now toggle the waypoint system on or off. By default, it’s mapped to R3.
Scent trails were previously on at all times, which is in line with what Wolverine can do, but the superhero with super powers has one power that trivialises a video game, or it appears to be so for a vocal bunch of gamers.
Having this now be optional is nice, so that those who do need the waypoint system can still navigate through the game without much fuss, and those who prefer the “fart gas” off can now ignore it entirely.
