Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Getting Season 2 Of Content, Bayonetta Joins

Sega is committing to support another year of free content drops for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, as the racing game celebrates its first anniversary.

More details of what’s coming to Season 2 of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds later this October during the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds World Championship finals, but there is one other Sega icon that’s been announced to join the roster. It’s Bayonetta.

While only the first Bayonetta game was published by Sega (subsequent releases were published by Nintendo), that connection is enough for the wicked witch (complimentary) to be extended an invited to this kart racer filled with guest characters.

Bayonetta’s signature Machine, Butterfly Witch, is of the Extreme Gear (hoverboard) variety. But that shouldn’t stop you from having the tall, dark and lanky lady to squeeze down into a kart Machine.

Season 2 of free updates in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are releasing alongside the previously announced Season Pass 2 of paid DLC. The trailer opens with a reveal of what to expect from the Godzilla and Evangelion Packs.

No, Godzilla doesn’t shrink down and squeeze into a driveable kart. Rather, the pack will include three Machines, and a new track (Godzilla Escape, a remix of City Escape with a big famous kaiju terrorising).

Meanwhile, the Evangelion Pack adds a new track (Tokyo-III), three Machines and two racers. No, Shinji didn’t get into the kart, so Rei Ayanami has to get in instead. Asuka Langley is also a racer, specifically Asuka Shikinami Langley, though the trailer does alludes to the other Asuka Langley Soryu, as seen in the title card of her reveal.

Four more unannounced DLC packs are part of the six-pack list of content coming as part of Season Pass 2.

Throughout last year, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds have been adding characters associated with Sega (that includes Atlus) plus Hatsune Miku as free updates, with crossovers of IPs in the paid Season Pass. The currently revealed content for Season 2 and Season Pass 2 aligns with that pattern, for now at least.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Check out our review of the game back at launch here.
