Asus Malaysia has announced the price for the next iteration of its portable PC gaming machine, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Pre-orders are now available in Malaysia.
The ROG Xbox Ally, the white one, is priced at the nice price of RM2,699. The lower-end Xbox Ally is powered by the energy-efficient AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, and is priced below the OG 2023 ROG Ally and more comparable to an imported Steam Deck or a Nintendo Switch 2.
Meanwhile, the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X, only available in black, is priced at a high yet cool price of RM4,299.
Yes, this does mean the ROG Xbox Ally X is the most expensive “Xbox,” but that’s because video game consoles are sold at a lost by default, hence how a similarly-specced PC to its console equivalent has always been more expensive. And at least in Malaysia the ROG Xbox Ally X is the most expensive by default, as there’s never an official game-playing Xbox sold here in the country. We only got Xbox controllers sold officially, no consoles.
That said, the ROG Xbox Ally X is priced as much as the outgoing 2024 ROG Ally X. So when viewed within the portable PC space, the prices here are more or less expected. And the Xbox Ally X is now powered by the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip that’s good enough to run AAA games.
Not only does the Ally now have two variants, the collaboration with Xbox also has improved the ergonomics of the handheld device (now with controller grips), and an upcoming overhaul of the Xbox App on Windows 11 PCs. That latter will eventually roll out to other handheld devices, but the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be the first to feature them.
