Consumer Softproducts is readying its next softproduct for us consumers to consume. The developer behind the awfully beautiful shooter Cruelty Squad is gearing up to release their next game, Psycho Patrol R.
The 2-minute trailer says it all. From the horrible UI design to the droning sounds that borders between eerie ambient sounds and terrible music. It’s a fever dream.
And would you believe it that this is actually toned down a bit from the more surreal world of Cruelty Squad. The environment textures look more like normal beige world this time.
And you may not notice this from just this new trailer alone, but Psycho Patrol R is a first-person shooter where you get to control mechs. A mecha-FPS, but less Titanfall, more Shogo.
It’s hard to tell when the mech-riding UI looks more like two tendrils taking up more screen space, as if the two blobs of corner UI design hasn’t taken enough.
A longer, raw gameplay trailer posted months back do show the V-Stalker being a proper big mech with big guns.
That all being said, Psycho Patrol R looks promising. Its choice aesthetic is an intentional counterculture move. Its aesthetic choice is of a Max0r video, abhorrently blended colour palette punctuated by one-colour texts in a serif font (in other words, hip and in vogue).
The game features a non-linear world where “every quest is a side quest” in the veins of how players play mainline Elder Scrolls games. And you can take on said quests by different approaches and has a reliance on gameplay systems interacting with each other, the game on Steam has the immersive sim tag.
And of course, it is absolutely anti-corpo, just read some of the flashing texts that displays on screen.
Psycho Patrol R will be released in Early Access on PC (Steam) on March 31 (April 1 in Asia).
