Promise Mascot Agency, the next game by the developers of Paradise Killer (Kaizen Game Works), has revealed some of the voice cast.
The game will have voice-overs in Japanese, appropriate given the whole game is based in Japan and heavily involves mascot culture. But boy is this cast of talents here sure is eclectic, just like the game.
Promise Mascot Agency’s protagonist, the ex-yakuza Michi, is played by none other than Takaya Kuroda. Kuroda is famous for his role voicing Like A Dragon’s long-standing protagonist Kiryu Kazuma. This weird indie game is blessed by the voice of Mr. John Yakuza a.k.a. the Dame Dame guy himself.
“We can’t believe that our weird game managed to attract such a strong voice cast. When our lead Japanese localiser, Roppyaku Tsurumi, told us that Kuroda-san had auditioned, we just about lost our minds,” said Oli Clarke Smith, Game Director. “All of the cast have brought our group of misfits to life wonderfully. After working on these characters for four years, they have become like friends to us, and we’re so happy that they have all been given a voice.”
But it gets weirder. Games industry legend, indie games champion and PlayStation all-timer Shuhei Yoshida is also voice a character named MonoGue, a mascot who just loves gaming. Yoshida just had his final day as a PlayStation employee a few days ago and just a day after announced he’s now doing voicework in games.
But there’s more. Swery (Deadly Premonition) voices priest mascot Hannushi-kun.
Ayano Shibuya (Purah in Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild) and Eri Saito (as featured in Metal Gear Solid 4, the anime Chainsaw Man and more) take on the role of assistant manager mascot Pinky and Matriarch Shimazu respectively.
Promise Mascot Agency sees you play as disgraced yakuza Michi, who is exiled to a cursed town of Kaso-Machi to pay off his debts and restore the town’s mascot agency. This will involve recruiting weird mascots (contract negotiations are involved) and conspiracies going behind the scenes.
Also, it’s an open world game where you drive a kei-truck and it can turn into a boat and a plane. It’s a fever dream of a game, and it looks fun.
Promise Mascot Agency is expected to release in early 2025 for PC and consoles.
