The new Fable game by Playground Games, simply titled Fable, that was announced to release later this year, has been delayed.
This was unceremoniously announced on the Official Xbox Podcast by Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan.
“While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait,” Duncan assured.
We haven’t really seen much of Fable, in particular how would Playground’s take on the action-RPG series that would demonstrate actual gameplay.
There’s a few B-roll that looks to be beautiful scenery (if it really was rendered all in real time, on an Xbox Series console). A few shots does show that it looks like a real video game with less of the bloomy lighting and more of that video-gamey combat animations that feel more in line with The Witcher 3. And a few more cutscenes with wobbly camerawork (in line with its The Office-esque presentation seen in previous trailers).
Fable has been dormant since Fable 3, and the last game now-defunct developer Lionhead was making for the series, Fable Legends, was cancelled.
Playground Games has since ended new content updates for Forza Horizon 5, just as the game is making its multi-platform debut with a PS5 release later this year.
And so far, there doesn’t seem to be a new Forza Horizon announcement in the horizon. Maybe until later this summer, the season when a new Forza game usually makes its reveal.
Fable will now be releasing later in 2026.
