Playground Games’ Fable Releasing In 2025

The new Fable game simply called Fable has reappeared at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. If the previous title was all cinematic, the new trailer has little bits of gameplay (by little, we mean “here’s a shot of the player character moving in the third-person and talking to someone”).

The trailer also does the The Office-style interview with the wobbly camera angle again, alongside the very, very dry British humour. Though it’s less goofy and jokey this time around, no chicken lobbing or such shenanigans this time.

The original Fable launched in 2004 by the now-defunct Lionhead Studios. The game, an unconventional yet fascinating action RPG, would spawn a trilogy and a Kinect game. Fable Legends, a free-to-play asymmetric multiplayer title was in the works before being cancelled and closed down. Lionhead was the last studio Microsoft/Xbox closed down, back in 2016, before the more recent closures.

This will be the first RPG by Playground Games, a studio that has been making nothing but racing games since its inception.

Fable now has a release window. It’s set to release sometime in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store).
