Blizzard’s ongoing free-to-play hero shooter Overwatch 2 is getting a new limited-time game mode, its first PVP/PVE hybrid event called Starwatch.
In Starwatch, the rebellious Watchers led by Bonebreaker Doomfist must attack the defending Infinite Empire headed by Galactic Emperor Sigma, on the new Inifinite Galactrius map based on the Horizon Lunar Colony Assault map.
It’s PVP/PVE because on the Infinite Empire’s side are special artillery and other units assisting them. The Watchers must push through this four-point assault map to rescue 3CH-0.
Yes, this is just the cast of Overwatch cosplaying as legally distinct Star Wars. Even the tie-in motion comic is called Starwatch: An Echo of Hope. At least now it makes sense why this season’s Battle Pass has all those sci-fi skins.
But it’s also interesting that Overwatch 2 was able to get official collaboration skins for One Punch Man, but couldn’t for Star Wars (while Epic Games’ Fortnite has featured both titles as collab skins).
Players can queue up to represent either side, or have the matchmaking fill you in any role should you have no preferences. The side with the most battles will see a follow-up comic reflecting the fate of the galaxy in favour of the winning side.
Also, there are Cosmic event challenges that unlock new cosmic cosmetics.
Overwatch 2 is out now for the PS4, PS5, PC (Battle.net), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
