The Acer Predator Helios 300 is getting a refresh for 2020. The entry-level Predator turned brutish package with a reasonable price will get some expected hardware upgrades to have it available in the latest that Intel and Nvidia have to offer.
The 2020 Predator Helios 300 will come equipped with 10th-gen Intel Core CPUs and GPUs as high as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 (Max-Q). A bit more beefier, but too much as they went for the Max-Q design- an Nvidia GPU variant that has slightly less performance by using lesser power (and also less heat production).
New to the 2020 Helios 300 is a 240Hz refresh rate for its 15.6″ IPS screen. It’s a bit overkill from the 144Hz of last year’s model but 200Hz+ refresh rate screens are getting commonplace these days. These higher refresh rates means games can look smoother (should it can reach that high of fps) and lets you react to things on screen quicker.
Acer is also adding DTS:X Ultra Audio for 360-degree surround sound and will use the new 4th-gen Aeroblade 3D cooling fans.
The 2019 model was great with some issues on heating and available storage size. We shall see if the spec changes on the 2020 model addresses such problems or not.
The 2020 Predator Helios 300 will go on sale in North America this July with a price tag of $1,299.99 USD (around RM5,562.01). We’ll be sure to report back when we hear when the Helios 300 comes to Malaysia, which is inevitable.
