Over 2 million players immediately entered the jianghu, as free-to-play open world action RPG Where Winds Meet hit seven-figure player counts within the first 24 hours of servers going live.
On just the launch day, on November 14, Where Winds Meet immediately shot up to being in the Top 4 of Steam’s Top Sellers, Top 5 in Steam’s Most Played and over 190,000 concurrent players. This doesn’t reflect the total number of PC players as the game is also available through its own standalone launcher.
The wuxia game is doing well on PS5 too, with multiple regions of the PlayStation Store sees Where Winds Meet listed in the Best Selling list. This includes countries like The US, France, South Korea, New Zealand and even Southeast Asian countries Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.
“We are thrilled to see such a positive reception for Where Winds Meet from players around the world,” said Beralt Lyu, Lead Producer of Where Winds Meet. “Looking ahead, our team is committed to listening to feedback from our global player community and continuously improving the game. We will also continue to deliver high-quality seasonal updates, bringing more captivating narrative, fresh game modes and new exploration content to the exciting Jianghu.”
Where Winds Meet is structured like a MMO, has the combat mechanics of fast-paced soulslikes on par with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (a heavy emphasis on parry/deflect as a mechanic), an engrossing story that flip-flops between seriously gritty to wackily whimsy, an abundance of mini-game and more. Players play as upcoming youxia, wandering heroes who are venturing into the jianghu for the first time.
For the uninitiated, the term jianghu literally translates to “rivers and lakes” but is used within wuxia media to refer to greater wuxia world, a world set in historical ancient China with some fantastic embellishments, like how powerful masters of martial arts can effectively fly, like those many wuxia movies produced in China and Hong Kong.
Where Winds Meet is out now on PS5 and PC (Steam, standalone launcher). Check out our review of the game here.
