Rivals Of Aether Is Getting A Sequel With A Sick New Artstyle

Platform fighter Rivals Of Aether is getting a sequel. Simply titled Rivals 2, the sequel was announced in a special livestream (held back on April 1- a weird time to make a big announcement like this) and will be bringing some major changes.

The most visible change is the shift from 2D sprites to 3D models. It’s a change we’ve seen many fighting games done before, but that doesn’t make Rivals 2’s change any less impressive.

Zetterburn, Ranno, and Wrastor have been revealed as the first three returning characters, now with more flair and style to their animations.

There is also a big shakeup in how Rivals 2 will play. Rivals Of Aether has been an outlier among platform fighters for not having mechanics like shields, grabs and ledges. These three mechanics will be in Rivals 2. In the FAQ page, developers Aether Studios explained these additions are to accommodate new players, in particular new players familiar with other platform fighters.

Rivals 2 is still early in development, with a target release of 2024.
