Playtonic announced that Yooka-Laylee is getting a remaster/remake and it’s heading to “PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo platforms” as well as on PC.
The curious bit is how cagey Playtonic is on not naming the supposed Nintendo platform is. There’s mention of the Nintendo Switch. The new trailer’s end screen shows a logo of Nintendo alongside the logos for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an eye emoji.
The tweet of this announcement also pays attention how this isn’t technically coming to Switch but possibly on the next Nintendo console, the so-called Switch successor, which we will only officially be revealed sometime next year.
In any case, expect this throwback 3D platformer and spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie to appear on a Nintendo console alongside current-gen consoles and PC.
Yooka-Replayee features an overhaul in art and animation, better performance, and many new gameplay changes. This inlcudes changes to existing challenges (as well as new ones), new collectible currency, a new map and challenge tracker, new tonics to change up your playstyle, camera improvements and an orchestral score based on the original music by composers Grant Kirkhope and David Wise.
Yooka-Replayee hasn’t declare if it’s a remaster or a remake, a line that continues to blur as more and more one-generation remakes/remasters are being made. Yooka-Laylee originally launched on previous generation consoles, on PS4, Xbox One and Switch.
Yooka-Replayee is coming to PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S and a Nintendo console sometime soon.
