Xenonauts 2 Enters Early Access This July

Xenonauts 2, the sandbox tactical strategy game inspired by the original X-COM now has a release date for its Early Access release.

Xenonauts 2 isn’t a direct sequel to the original Xenonauts, released in 2014. Developer Goldhawk Interactive is making what is a “reimagining” of the original game, but with a different setting, a new modern game engine and refined mechanics. This sequel is being published by indie publisher Hooded Horse

Xenonauts 2 is set in an alternate timeline where the Cold War never ended, and now players must lead a multi-national organisation to investigate and fend off what seems to be alien attacks around the world.

How you go about doing this is up to you. You can construct multiple bases around the world, have listening posts set up so you can be alerted when an alien activity appears and have interceptors ready.

The enemy can also fight back. They’ll be attempting to attack your bases too so you must have your critical assets defended.

Not only is there’s air combat, in which the game offers real-time aerial engagements, but there’s also the ground-based tactical combat where you must fight not only aliens, but human sympathizers. Ground-based combat has a top-down, isometric look to it, which should give off the nostalgia (or some form of trauma) of the original X-COM games.

Like the original X-COM and XCOM, expect some brutal permadeath, so every action has its consequences, but some are consequences that you should live by to keep the fighting alive.

Xenonauts will enter Early Access on PC on July 18.
