Looks like the Xbox Developer Direct (stylised as “Developer_Direct”) is returning for 2024. The second edition of this developer-focused presentation is set to go live on January 18, 12 PM PT (January 19, 4 AM Malaysia Time, +8 GMT).
Four games from four different developers under the Xbox Game Studios banner as well as Bethesda are confirmed to make an appearance.
The Indiana Jones game from MachineGames by publisher Bethesda will get a first look. Expect “more than 10 minutes of game and developer insights” as well as the first gameplay trailer.
Avowed, Obsidian’s first-person fantasy action RPG, will have a deep dive. Expect to hear the developers talk about “building worlds with deep themes, dynamic gameplay, and thoughtful reactivity”.
The underrated of the four games, Ara: History Untold by Oxide Games, will also get a slot. Expect to learn more about the inspiration and key features for this historical 4X strategy game from veterans that helped made Civilization V.
And lastly, we’ll have another look at Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
However, there won’t be news about any games from Activision Blizzard, which are now under Microsoft.
The one-hour-ish Developer Direct will be followed by The Elder Scrolls Online 2024 Global Reveal stream at 5 AM Malaysia time, which will reveal the next Chapter and new features for the ongoing MMORPG.
Last year, the Developer Direct shadowdropped Hi-Fi Rush, the second-best game of 2023 according to us at Gamer Matters. Will there be another secret game suddenly announced? Unlikely. But the point is there might be a surprise or two in the show. At the very least, we get to see and hear more from the people who make these wonderful games. And they deserved to be seen and heard from us.
