Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters has its second of three dev diary videos released, revealing and teasing details for Complex Games and Frontier Foundry’s upcoming strategy-RPG.
We’ve seen teases of the forces of Nurgle, the Chaos faction your team of Grey Knights Space Marines are fighting. And now here are more details about them.
In Deamonhunters, followers of Nurgle are spreading a plague, the Bloom, around the galaxy. It’s both a plot point as well as a gameplay mechanic. Locations that are corrupted by the Bloom will slowly get infected, and this will in turn give Nurgle the ability to interfere with your combat through warp surges. These random portals will bring in buffs to the enemies or debuff your squad.
Plus, there are various strains of the Bloom, giving you different challenges to overcome. Planets with the strain of pain will see enemies gain higher damage mutations, while the strain of death will stop your knight’s willpower.
Leaving a planet alone will see the Bloom… bloom, where the corruption becomes stronger and will have more combat encounters. Strategically managing the corruption in the strategic layer is key. You can upgrade your ship and research strategems to keep the plague under control.
Also, you’ll be facing off against the heretic Death Guards, a Space Marine chapter that’s now sworn under the banner of Chaos, now with toxic powers. The video ends with a tease of a Daemon Prince Mortarion, who leads the Death Guards.
Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters will be out on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) in 2022.
