A new mainline update for free-to-play looter-shooter Warframe is coming. Unlike the previous few updates, which are more ambitious (and for most fans, a bit underwhelming), the coming Deadlock Protocol is a return to a familiar style of game updates.
The Deadlock Protocol remasters the Corpus Ship tileset, which now look shinier and more vibrant than the game was first shown. But it’s not just a new lick of paint- there are now new enemies like upgraded turrets and Corpus Aristrocrats that throw mines.
The Jackal, an early boss in Warframe, gets a rework too. Veterans can hop into seven days of Jackal Sorties highlighting the reworked boss.
There’s also a new currency to be earned when fighting the Corpus. Gain Granum Crowns and use them to start challenges in missions, which can then be turned in for Standing points.
The Deadlock Protocol also adds a new warframe, Protea. This is a gadget-heavy frame which can deploy turrets, throw grenades and drop health, ammo and energy pickups. Warframe’s take on the engineer class, essentially. But with a rewind ultimate ability.
The update also adds new Corpus-themed weapons and armour, plus new primary kitguns (not just a sidearm anymore), new moa pet and new dojo room and decorations.
The Deadlock Protocol update will be releasing this week on PC, with consoles (PS4, Xbox One and Switch) coming at a later date.
