After Project Winter, what’s next for developers Other Ocean? Well, other than a Walking Dead game, it’s time to take the social deception game into the ocean with Underlab.
Underlab is a social deception sandbox game set in an underwater laboratory where players are tasked to conduct experiments. There are various roles available, from janitors and doctors to security officers and HR managers. And everyone is supposed to work together to conduct experiments.
And of course, there are infiltrators among us that will attempt to sabotage the experiments. Fail to finish an experiment three times and the lab will activate a failsafe that’ll explode the facility alongside everyone in it.
Underlab is a more Among Us-y take on social deception in that crew members have to do tasks while impostors must shut the lab down while not getting caught. Which is very different from how Project Winter approached the social deception gameplay.
That said, Underlab shouldn’t play exactly like Among Us. There is item crafting where the items used can either be seen as a traitorous action or silly trolling. Some items require a person with a specific role to craft them, so you’ll need to socially interact with other players to do your tasks, whether that is for the lab to continue operating or to make it explode.
Plus, it looks like there’s health and combat at play, so that’s a bit more like Project Winter.
