Ever since Bandai Namco has announced their DLC plans for Tekken 7 will include two more guest characters from other videogame franchises, the guessing game of who will be included has started. Who would be a good fit, aside from Street Fighter’s Akuma who is already in the roster, for Tekken? Series producer Katsuhiro Harada has asked around over on Twitter for some suggestions.
In an interview with Gamespot, Harada has mentioned that based on his recent tweet, there is a strong demand to see Yakuza’s Kazuma Kiryu be included in the roster. You can check out the replies for yourselves here and see the many instances of Kiryu being mentioned.
This is by no means a confirmation of any sorts. Harada also explained the complications involved with bringing a character from another IP of another company into a game. “There are a lot of hurdles to overcome” to include the guest characters, he said. Though he was taken aback by how popular the character is in the West.
The Dragon of Dojima being popular might be attributed by the recent release of Yakuza 0, which has long been released in Japan but only received an English localisation early this year. And with Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the first game with the engine powering Yakuza 0, the interest for the series is pretty strong at this time of year.
It would be rad if Kiryu is included. His brutal but still grounded fighting style should be a right fit into Tekken. Sega, the publishers of the series, has already a history of providing guest characters. Several characters from the Virtua Fighter series are included in Koei Tecmo’s Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round, so there’s a slim chance it will all work out.
