The next free update to The Crew Motorfest, Ubisoft’s open world racing game, goes live on July 3 with Season 4. This new season is adding a new Playlist called “Donk vs Lowrider” and it’s all about two specific car customisation cultures prominent in the US West Coast.
Lowriders are the more familiar style of car customisation, characterised by cars with, well, low ride heights. But there’s also the specific artform that is the car paint that makes this scene pop. Meanwhile, the Donk may not be a popular name, but it’s easy to spot: these are cars with oversized wheels. Not just the rims being big, the whole set of tyres. Opposite to a lowrider, donks have a high ride height.
As you can expect, the new playlist will walk you through the car culture surrounding donks and lowriders across 12 events. You will slowly build a donk or lowrider, and of course, participate in events like “car dance”, a rhythm game that makes use of a lowrider’s air suspension, as well as “street versus”, a “performance-based” mode between donk cars on a dragstrip.
Ubisoft has consulted with Estevan Oriol, a famous photographer who has captured these car cultures, to advise the development team on the cultural elements and how to integrate them in game. This includes the voices, graphics packages and more.
Season 4 also marks the return of several missing marques in The Crew Motorfest. Abarth, Alfa Romeo and Lancia, all previously appeared in The Crew 2 but conspicuously missing in the new game, have now made it to Motorfest bringing 17 new cars between the three brands under Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).
15 of those cars are returning from The Crew 2- and you can import them should you already own them in the previous game. And 2 are brand new to the series: the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale 1968 and the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm 2021.
The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale can be earned as a Twitch Drop during Ubisoft’s upcoming Ubisoft Forward showcase, and available in The Crew Motorfest shop starting June 13, ahead of the new season.
Season 4 will mark the end of Year 1 of The Crew Motorfest. Expect to see a glimpse of what Year 2 during the upcoming Ubisoft Forward.
The Crew Motorfest is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Check out our review of the game here.
