Take Down A Doomsday Prepper Cult In Far Cry 5, Out In February 2018

The teases are over. Far Cry 5 has been announced for a February 27, 2018 release and will take place in the fictional county of Hope County, Montana, USA. You take the role of a deputy sheriff trying to stop the county’s ruling cult- not only a religious one as implied in the cover art featured above, but also one of those doomsday preppers- folks that keeps rations of food and weapons to be ready for the imminent collapse of civilization.

Sounds a bit controversial? A bit, but the controversy has already started with online petitions asking to cancel the game floating about. It’s not the first time similar themes of overt relegious extremism is explored, like Bioshock Infinite, but a more grounded setting and character cast with the addition of the current political climate in the US, it’s understandable that it may seem a bit too close to home for some.

Far Cry 5 will have customisable characters, co-op for the whole campaign like Far Cry 4, hunt as well as fish for crafting materials, and bring your own militia to take the fight against the cult.

Far Cry 5 will be out for PC, PS4 and the Xbox One
