Survive Space Dystopia And Make Friends In Narrative RPG Citizen Sleeper

Have a cyberpunk and sci-fi itch to scratch but don’t want any shooting and combat involved? This latest game from Jump Over The Age and publisher Fellow Traveller might scratch that itch.

In Citizen Sleeper, you play as a “Sleeper”, a digital copy of a person that has signed their body rights with a corporation. Now free from your overlords, you find yourself in the Erlin’s Eye space station, where you must make a living, and survive.

It’s a cruel world where you must figure out where your place is, who yourself is, and who should you call friends. And all of that is not just expressed by the writing, but in its gameplay as well.

Citizen Sleeper is a narrative RPG in which most of the content here is driven by its writing, complete with a scrollable, vertical text wall similar to what you see in Disco Elysium.

You also have to spec out your Sleeper with different stats, and you are free to pursue the many different paths so long as you can survive.

There’s no combat here, the RPG elements here are for skill checks, done so with the use of pre-rolled dice. If you’re familiar with another space game called Tharsis, the skill check mechanic is similar to that, but not as brutal.

It’s a fascinating game, and short enough that you want to revisit and see the different paths you can take.

Citizen Sleeper is out now on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It’s also available on Xbox Game Pass (Console, PC).
