Stunfest is an annual game culture event in France. Aside from concerts and showcases of retro games, it plays host to France’s biggest fighting game tournaments, which includes Street Fighter V.
Stunfest 2016 is considered a premier event in the Street Fighter V Capcom Pro Tour, the official league run by Capcom for Street Fighter players. Being a premier event comes with a high reward- the winner here gets a qualification spot for the Capcom Cup, where only 32 players are selectively invited, coming later this year.
Current strongest SFV player RZR|Inflitration, who has won two titles premier events already, is not seen here, leaving room for others to grab some ranking points Capcom Cup leaderboards. Tokido, who has been the runner-up behind Infiltration’s two major wins, looks to be the favourites to take the win.
In the end, it was EG|Momochi’s strong showing of Ken that took home the win, after a strong showing against Tokido in the loser’s finals, and beating RZR|Fuudo, playing R. Mika in the Grand Finals.
The event may not have run as smooth as it should, though. There was a power outage in the middle of top 16 losers match between RZR|Xian and Perilous|Packz, and streaming quality may not be as smooth for the viewers at home. But the players here gave a lot of good performances.
Momochi and Tokido’s match in the loser’s finals is worth highlighting. A classic Ryu-Ken matchup, Momochi’s aggressive jump-ins as Ken is particularly interesting. Random jump-ins are unsafe at best, but Momochi makes it work in his favour.
The Grand Finals itself is also worth a watch. While Momochi dominates through the first set (even managing to snag a perfect K.O.), resetting the bracket, Fuudo eventually puts up a strong fight until the end.
The next premier event in the Capcom Pro Tour is Dreamhack Summer, taking place in Sweden, on June 18th-21st and Community Effort Orlando (CEO) in the US on June 24th-25th.
