Square Enix Shares More Info On How Tifa Plays Like In Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake may be delayed, but its release is imminent. Square Enix has shared a few more tidbits about the game’s combat, this time on Tifa.

Tifa fights with her fists and kicks, so naturally she has swift combo attacks with repeated presses on the square button. New to FF VII Remake are unique abilities access with triangle. For Tifa, she gains access to what is essentially combo-enders, and these abilities can chain up to three different unique attacks. This includes Whirling Uppercut (a shoryuken equivalent), Omnistrike (a shoulder shove) and Rise And Fall, a two-part flurry of kicks and punches.

Tifa also has abilities (skills) that uses an ATB bar. There’s True Strike, swift punch to the front, and a divekick.

In addition, Square Enix also revealed two new materia coming to Final Fantasy VII Remake. Just like the original, equipping these adds new abilities to the characters, but this time around the equipped materia are visible on the weapons.

There is the Healing materia, which gives you access to your traditional white magic spells like Cure and Cura. Meanwhile, there’s a new category of materia, Complete Materia. One of these will give you a free melee counter-attack after a successful evade. And this is not limited to melee characters like Cloud, anyone can use it.

On the weapons, Cloud can get access to the spiked bat in Final Fantasy VII Remake. In the original game, it’s more of a joke weapon. We don’t know if that remains the case, so let’s wait and see.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will be out on April 10th for the PS4. More recently, Square Enix also revealed new screenshots and details of new side quests being added to the game.
