Square Enix “Have Made Preparations” To Allow Players Enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Without Playing Final Fantasy VII Remake First

The Final Fantasy VII Twitter has released a number of developer comments pertaining the upcoming continuation of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Four of them to be exact.

One of the most intriguing of the bunch is a comment prompted by the question: “Do I need to play Final Fantasy VII Remake to enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?”

The answer to that is:

“No- we have made preparations so that players who did not get a chance to play the first game can fully enjoy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth”.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the direct continuation of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which we all assumed to be a faithful remake of the original PS1 game’s opening segment. That is still true in most regards but there are seeds that have been planted to ensure the follow-up, Rebirth, can stray away from the canonical story of Final Fantasy VII which have fans either buzzing with excitement or dreading that developers might mess up what is widely regarded as a classic tale.

It’s interesting that despite Rebirth being a hard sequel, developers are not expecting you to play Remake first. It makes business sense- why put a barrier to potential customers? But will this just mean that there’s going to be a recap video- a common trick most sequels have these days to catch players up with the story or remind them of important plot points from a game they haven’t played in years.

There’s no exact release date for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth just yet. The game will be realising on PS5.
