The Afeela Prototype 2024, a car being made by Sony Honda Mobility, will be coming to Gran Turismo 7 in an update coming later this year.
At CES 2024, the car was showcased during Sony’s press conference where it was driven on stage with a DualSense controller. It was just a gimmick- for tech showcases only and not a feature of the car. But the gimmick was to introduce how Polyphony Digital, developers of Gran Turismo 7 and a subsidiary of Sony, will contribute to the partnership.
In the press release, the partnership between Sony Honda Mobility (a joint-venture company between Sony and car manufacturer Honda) and Polyphony is ” to develop vehicles that fuse the virtual and the real, mainly in the area of human senses and emotions by combining Polyphony Digital’s simulation technology with the development of actual vehicles by Sony Honda Mobility.
The Afeela is an EV, so hopefully it can go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Porsche Taycan in GT7. The trailer shows the Afeela cruising around Willow Springs and the fictional tracks of Grand Valley Highway and Tokyo Expressway, all within GT7.
Sony introduced their first-ever car prototype at CES 2020 with the Sony Vision-S. Last year, Sony announced a collaboration with Honda to produce the Afeela EV.
