Sniper Elite 5 Includes Cross-Play Multiplayer For Co-Op, Invasions

Rebellion is making another entry to the famous Sniper Elite series. Sniper Elite 5 brings the third-person stealth-action game about sneaking and sniping during World War II to France in 1944, right around when D-Day happened.

The new entry is adding some cool features. The full campaign, like in the previous game, can be played with two players, via online co-op. But this time, cross-play is available across all platforms.

But that’s not all, you can also decide to be an uncooperative player that joined the session.

Sniper Elite 5 also will include Invasion Mode, a new mode where a player can play as an Axis Sniper and must take out the main character (or characters, if you’re playing co-op) during the campaign. The invader can make use of the AI soldiers on their side to find the player, whilst the player can make use of phones to gather intel and discover if the invader is in the session.

Essentially, it’s possible to have sniper duels in Sniper Elite 5, so expect some back-and-forth exchanges as to who’s gonna take them out, just like that one Franz Ferdinand song, if you’re paired with a player of matching skill level.

You can opt-out of Invasions, the mode can be toggled off.

It’s cool to see more games that are not soulslikes having an Invasion mode. This was most recently seen in last year’s Deathloop.

There are also four other dedicated multiplayer modes.

Other than that, Sniper Elite 5 will enhance the famous kill cam feature- it now triggers with pistol and SMG kills alongside the usual rifle and takedown kills. There are also more options to customise your weapons, and more traversal mechanics giving you more routes for stealthy play.

Sniper Elite 5 releases on May 26 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be on Xbox Game Pass (Console, PC) on day-1 of launch.
