Session, or its full name Session: Skate Sim, by Crea-ture Studios now has a release date. The game is currently in Early Access, but after the big update from earlier this February, the team is now full speed ahead in getting the game to version 1.0.
As a result, as explained on the Steam blog, the planned next update in June has been cut in order to focus on the full release, scheduled in September. A bunch of planned features are also cut from the version 1.0 release, including grab tricks and other vert-based tricks.
Still, should Session sticks to its landing and properly polish up the weird edge cases, this could be a promising skateboarding game.
Session uses what’s being called the “True Stance Stick” controls, where each analog stick of a controller controls each foot of a skater. It’s a bit different to the analog stick flicks you see in EA’s Skate games, but the goal is the same: bringing a more technical, and realistic, simulation of the physics-defying extreme sport.
Session will leave Early Access on September 22, and will be available on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
