Rockstar Games released a new trailer and more details for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. This is a new remaster for the PS2-era GTA games that ushered in the era of open-world action games: GTA III, GTA Vice City And GTA San Andreas.
This remaster collection is more elaborate than we first expected, and the new trailer featuring gameplay footage of all three games includes some very clear changes, unlike the next-gen ports for GTA V.
All three GTA games are now running on the Unreal Engine, but it’s still the same cities and people you know and love- just updated to modern standards of graphics. So it looks a bit uncanny at places.
The trilogy has a more stylised look compared to, say GTA IV and GTA V where the character designs are more realistic. So some characters now look a bit off than what you might have remembered. Even the cities have some Unreal vibes, or rather, uncanny.
Still, it does look authentic to the original games’ stylised art direction. And the many quality of life updates should make it more playable for folks who never touched the dated controls, or those that don’t want to go back to the old controls.
Here is a list of changes Rockstar Games confirmed coming to the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition:
- GTA V-inspired modern controls
- Updated targeting and lock-on aiming
- Weapon and radio station wheels
- Visual upgrades- improved resolution, improved visual fidelity while maintaining the original aesthetic
