Scribblenauts Showdown Announced For March Release

A board game format with mini-games, sounds familiar?

Anyone up for a party? Or maybe a family-friendly boardgame? The latest iteration of the clever wordsmithing game Scribblenauts is taking a different direction with its latest entry.

Scribblenauts’ big gimmick is letting you spawn over thousands of items with various properties all by just typing it out. It’s a fun mechanic that will be used a bit differently this time. The new titular Showdown mode will have up to four players go around a board game map while engaging various mini-games, ranging from “Wordy” mini-games which tests your vocabulary to “Speedy” mini-games where you need to finish the challenge the fastest.

If you are prone to having bad experience with multiplayer boardgames (or suffering from traumas due to very long sessions of Mario Party), there’s also a Versus mode where up to two players can just play the mini-games,. It can be done solo as well.

Thankfully, Scribblenauts Showdown will still have the Sandbox mode. There will be eight levels where you need to collect Starites by solving various problems and challenges like the in previous games. The mode can also be played co-op with another player.

Surprisingly, Scribblenauts Showdown will be out very soon on the 9th of March. Don’t hold your breath for a PC release yet (this is a Warner Bros. game after all), but expect to see it released on the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
