Developer Eremite Games and publisher Hooded Horse announced that Against The Storm will be heading to Steam soon, a year after the roguelite city-builder launched on the Epic Games Store.
At a press event ahead held ahead of gamescom asia 2022, in which Gamer Matters were in attendance, the publisher revealed a date for Against The Storm’s arrival on Steam.
Against The Storm is set in a fantasy setting where the world is cursed by eternal rain. As the Viceroy of the Queen, you must help citizens (of various fantasy races) to build up cities (plural) while balancing the needs of the citizens and the Queen.
Rather than a sprawling city-builder where you can spend hundreds of hours to perfect how your city looks, Against The Storm challenge you to build multiple smaller cities in a “run”. The lands you build a city in are randomised, and so is your given hand in the tech tree. And the world will slowly be fighting against you in a run, inflicting various debuffs and other challenges your way.
At the end of a run, the rain will wash out all of the settlements, and you must begin anew.
What makes Against The Storm a roguelite is that you can spend resources for permanent upgrades- there is a meta-progression here.
Against The Storm has been on the Epic Games Store for about a year, and now it’s time for players on Steam to take a gander at this rather unique mash of genres. It’s a weird combo but like banana and pesto, it somehow works together.
Against The Storm will launch on Steam Early Access on November 1.
