Eager on the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II by DICE and EA? Or you still cared about the original Battlefront series? Here’s good news. Disney and GOG has revitalised the multiplayer support for 2005’s massive shooter.
Star Wars Battlefront II (now called Star Wars Battlefront II (Classic, 2005)) lost its multiplayer support after Gamespy closed its doors. While fan-made solutions are aplenty, now we have an official way to play the multiplayer mode again.
“Now you can draft your friends to the 501st legion and join up to 64 other players in a heated online battle for control of the galaxy,” reads the statement on Steam.
The multiplayer also allows cross-platform play for Steam and GOG users.
However, early reports indicate that the there are issues to access multiplayer on the Steam version as of the time of writing. So either wait it out a bit or uninstall then reinstall the whole game again.
You can get Star Wars Battlefront II (Classic, 2005) on Steam or on GOG.
The original Battlefront series was developed by Pandemic for the PS2, Xbox and PC. Featuring massive battles with up to 64 people in big maps. It was basically a Battlefield clone, but Battlefront II added more content in the form of a single-player campaign and hero characters both sides of the war can use.
Pandemic was later bought by EA and then shut down in 2009. The new Battlefront series is now handled by the Battlefield team, DICE.
